Burial Requirements

We allow up to 3 burials per space (except for niches). This means each space may have one full burial and two cremations OR three cremations. However, note that each space is evaluated to ensure multiple burials are feasible since space may be affected by natural surroundings (trees and other organic material) and sizes vary.

We do not offer burial services or installations. Individuals must utilized approved funeral homes and monument companies for their burial needs. A list of approved funeral homes and monument companies may be requested from the Cemetery office.

Since we do not have any cemetery spaces for sale, proof of ownership through a deed or bill of sale is required for pre-need or at-need burial requests. The information below are basic requirements and is not an indication of a complete list of items that may be required since each burial is unique. The City has the right to require addition documents or forms in order to approve a burial.

At-Need Burial Process

First we extend our deepest condolences on the loss of your loved one. Individuals considering burying their loved one in a city cemetery will need to complete the following:

  1. Provide proof of ownership through deed or bill of sale.
  2. Interment authorization form. This form is filled out by the Cemetery office with the specifics for the burial and authorizes the City to allow the interment of the deceased in the space described. The form requires at least one witness and a notary (which may serve as the second witness).
  3. Original Transit Permit or Original Cremains Certificate. The appropriate original document must be received before the grave space is flagged for burial.
    1. Transit Permit: this is not the same as a death certificate. The funeral home will provide this to the family and may send it to the Cemetery office.
    2. Cremains Certificate: provided at the time cremains are given to the family.
  4. City fees. All burials have an interment fee, recording fee, and marking site fee (totaling $210). There is also a marker/monument fee which varies depending on whether it is a flat or upright. Final fees are calculated by the Cemetery office. These fees are NOT connected with funeral homes or monument companies and the individual will pay respective costs to funeral homes and monument companies directly for their services.
  5. Proof of purchase of marker/monument. Every burial is required to have a marker or monument.* Monument companies must be approved by the City to conduct services in city cemeteries. A receipt of payment must be provided to the Cemetery office as proof of marker/monument. If you choose an upright monument, the monument company will be required to submit a diagram with dimensions to the Cemetery office for review, approval, and calculation of fees prior to beginning work on the monument.**

*Individuals being entombed or inurned in a crypt space must have the information etch or have a plaque place on the face of the crypt.
**If the individual is going into an occupied space, an upright monument is not allowed and a flat marker must be installed.

Pre-Need Burial Process

Although a difficult conversation to have, pre-need planning allows your family to know your wishes and can ease their stress after their loss. Individuals considering to have their burial affairs in order prior to their passing may complete the pre-need process with the Cemetery office.
