Bayshore Boulevard Greenway

Bayshore BoulevardKnown as one of the longest continuous sidewalks in the United States, Bayshore Boulevard is 4.5 miles of scenic views paralleling Tampa Bay. En route, you'll pass by some of Tampa's most prestigious homes, many on the National Historic Register, in Old Hyde Park.

This 10 foot-wide sidewalk starts on the north at the Columbus Statue Park at Platt Street and ends at Gandy Boulevard.  A three mile on-road bike lane also exists along the north-bound lane of Bayshore Boulevard between Rome Avenue and Gandy Boulevard.

Federal SAFETEA-LU Transportation Enhancement funding is programmed in the FDOT Work Program to construct southbound on-road bike lanes from Platt Street to Gandy Boulevard. The first mile will be implemented beginning in FY 2007-08. Another mile section has achieved "candidate" status in the FDOT Tentative Work Program for FY 2010-11.

As a result of the Bayshore Boulevard Task Force study recommendations, additional sidewalks on the west side of Bayshore Boulevard were constructed by the City Department of Public Works. Additional improvements to Bayshore Boulevard will enhance pedestrian accessibility to the trail.

A Walkable Communities Workshop was conducted on the section of Bayshore Boulevard between Gandy Boulevard and Ballast Point Park with national trail experts from the National Walking & Biking Center to develop recommendations to improve trail accessibility for all users to the Bayshore Linear Park Trail. These recommendations are being evaluated for feasibility and possible funding and implementation.

The Bayshore Boulevard Greenway is part of the regional trails system and is designated one of several priorities.
