Tyler D.
Intern in Spring '21

My experience interning for Tampa Parks and Recreation was a great one. Even in the midst of a global pandemic, the department worked hard to try and make sure I was safe, but that I also got to see as much as I could while still learning. I didn’t expect there to be as much going on in the department as there was, and I didn’t even get to see the department running at full capacity. There is so much more to experience in Parks and Recreation than one might originally believe. My favorite aspect of working with this department was the variety of work that was done; for example, one week I was doing physical labor keeping parks clean and the next week I was supervising children at a Spring Break camp, then the next week I was observing daily work in the pools. Overall, this internship experience allowed me to experience a lot of different aspects of the citywide recreation industry while also allowing me to sharpen my soft skills especially, but also some hard skills.
